YYC Calgary expands with record traffic and new global routes

MEDIA RELEASE

Calgary, AB, Feb. 11, 2025 (TMNW) – YYC Calgary International Airport welcomed a record-breaking 18.9 million passengers in 2024 and added five new non-stop destinations, enhancing Calgary’s connectivity. This represents 2.2 per cent growth, or approximately 400,000 additional passengers, from the previous record set in 2023. It underscores YYC’s role as a key hub for travellers and businesses, contributing to the economic vitality of the region.

“This milestone and our continued growth reflect the trust and confidence that travellers and our partners place in YYC as their gateway to the world,” says Chris Dinsdale, President & CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “2024 was a testament to the strength of our partnerships and the dedication of the entire airport community. We’re thrilled to build on this momentum as we continue to enhance the travel experience for the millions of guests we welcome each year.”

Together, our airport community launched routes to five new non-stop destinations in 2024 – Keflavik, Iceland, Seoul, South Korea, Charlotte, North Carolina, Tulum, Mexico and Deer Lake, Newfoundland. We also made significant progress on The Authority’s $200-million-dollar restoration of the West Runway, an extensive project which is on track for completion later this year. And in August, our community came together to weather the impact of a significant hailstorm without compromising guest experience or flight operations.

Passenger traffic at YYC continues to grow following back-to-back record-breaking years, and The Authority is making significant investments in infrastructure and amenities to enhance the guest experience for the millions of guests who will pass through our terminal in the years ahead.
