Abbotsford, BC – TheNewswire – April 29, 2021 – Gatekeeper Systems Inc. (‘Gatekeeper’ or the ‘Company’) (TSXV:GSI) (OTC:GKPRF) (FSE:1GK) a video and data solutions provider for public transportation and smart cities, is pleased to announce it has been selected to provide its technology as part of a series of school bus safety pilot projects being conducted in British Columbia and Ontario. The school buses will be equipped with the Company’s video and data solutions suite, which includes interior cameras, infraction cameras, 360 cameras, and wireless-enabled mobile data collectors.

“Designing innovative technology solutions to improve school bus safety is a cornerstone on which our company has been built,” commented Doug Dyment, Gatekeeper’s President and CEO. “We are very pleased to be supporting this important initiative.”

On February 14, 2020, the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety released the report of the federal, provincial and territorial Task Force on School Bus Safety, Strengthening School Bus Safety in Canada report, which developed a set of recommendations for the Council of Ministers to consider. Recognizing that most school aged fatalities involving a school bus occur outside the bus, in or near school bus loading zones, the Task Force recommends that all jurisdictions explore the application of a number of key safety measures, two of which include:

  1. 1.Infraction Cameras, to help prevent dangerous incidents caused by passing motorists; and

  2. 2.Exterior 360° Cameras, as a means of better detecting and protecting children and other vulnerable road users around the exterior of the bus.

The report estimates that 2.2 million Canadian school children travel to and from school every day on Canada’s 51,670 school buses.

Gatekeeper’s Infraction / Stop Arm Camera System is specifically designed to record and target vehicles that illegally pass a school bus when the stop arm is deployed and captures license plate information day or night up to four lanes from a school bus. Gatekeeper’s video analytics and proprietary software automates the ticketing process of the infractions.

Gatekeeper’s 360 Surround Vision Camera system provides a surround view of the school bus, and is automatically activated when the bus is reversing or making side turns. The surround view is displayed on a specialized rear-view mirror system allowing drivers to monitor school children all around the bus.

School districts are rapidly embracing video and data solutions on school buses to help provide a safer transportation environment for school children. Gatekeeper has significant industry experience, having installed more than 34,000 intelligent mobile data collectors and 100,000 video devices on school buses, for over 3,500 school district customers.
